The Travis Manion Foundation is an incredible organization that assists our nation's veterans and the families of Fallen Heroes.
"The Travis Manion Foundation targets the issues that face our veterans, survivors, and military community by focusing on building community through social interaction, team building events, and mentoring and advocacy. We treat the people we serve as individuals and with respect. By empowering our military community, we are able to bring their strength and spirit of service to everyday citizens. Their stories are powerful tools for educating and activating people to emulate their selfless service. Our goal is to connect the military and civilian communities through service. By empowering 1 veteran or survivor, we are able to educate and activate 100 citizens. Together, we can bridge the gap and create an environment where veterans and survivors are seen as civic assets."
I found out about this organization by running the 9/11 5k in 2012. It was my first ever 5k run and I fell in love with it. Emotional and powerful. This year I was not able to run it but I was able to volunteer as a photographer to take pictures of all the military wives, kids, family members, soldiers, veterans, who came out to run for this organization. The Travis Manion Foundation then sent me a message and asked if I would come to Philadelphia and shoot the huge Gala they have every year. This huge event helps raise money and recognize character and leadership. I am so honored to be a part of it.
Not only will I be going to my favorite city, a place I consider my second home, but I will be doing something I will never forget. I am of course very nervous, yet extremely excited. If anyone reads this blog, please! PLEASE! Go to their website http://www.travismanion.org and get involved! Donate or find where the next 9/11 run is around you and run it!
